Andrew Perrault, a high school senior, finds solace in writing dark fairytales, tethered to reality only by his best friend, Thomas Rye. But when Thomas’s abusive parents mysteriously vanish and he arrives at school with bloodstained sleeves, Andrew grows increasingly concerned. As Thomas withdraws and stops sketching his usual macabre monsters, Andrew discovers a horrifying truth—Thomas’s creations have come to life and are killing those close to him. Bound by love and desperation, the boys battle these nightmares each night, but as their connection deepens, so does the danger. Andrew soon realizes that stopping the creatures may mean destroying the very boy he’d do anything to protect.
