"The Broposal" by Sonora Reyes: Review

Alejandro “Han” and Kenny have been best bros since second grade, so when Han needs a green card, Kenny doesn’t hesitate to propose a fake marriage. To their friends and family, it seems like the perfect plan—after all, who better to marry than your ride-or-die? But as their wedding date approaches, the line between friendship and something more starts to blur. With meddling exes, immigration officers watching their every move, and feelings they can’t quite ignore, Kenny and Han must figure out if their broposal is just a charade or the beginning of something real.

The Broposal by Sonora Reyes was everything I could have wanted and more—so cute, so heartfelt, and it gave me all the feels. Kenny and Han’s relationship was beautifully messy, unfolding in such an organic and realistic way that I felt every moment of tension, longing, and deepening connection between them. Their chemistry was off the charts, and the way the spice was written? Absolutely phenomenal. It was raw, emotional, and placed so perfectly within the story to enhance their bond, rather than just being there for the sake of it. One scene in particular stands out as one of the most emotional intimate moments I’ve ever read, and there was even a surprising kinky scene that caught me off guard in the best way. The audiobook was fantastic—the narrators brought so much depth and emotion to the story, making every scene even more immersive.

Beyond the romance, the book tackled important and timely issues, including immigration, ICE, police, and racial profiling. These themes were woven seamlessly into the narrative, making Han’s struggle feel all the more urgent and real in today’s political climate. And while I absolutely hated the antagonist (seriously, they made my blood boil), I recognize how important it is to tell stories like this, ones that highlight experiences that are too often ignored. This book sits high up there with The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School in terms of how incredible it is. Sonora Reyes has once again crafted a story that is deeply moving, romantic, and unforgettable. I loved The Broposal with my whole heart.
